NTT’s First Ever Participation In A Futsal Competition

My company (NTT) participated in our first ever futsal tournament last Saturday, 9th August 2008 organized by TM wholesale at HTO de Futsal, Subang Jaya. The team consists of WWChan (Team Coach), A.Fukui (Keeper, Defender), Kong Chon Hoe (Captain, Defender), Amin (Defender, Keeper), Thevan (Striker), Brandon (Defender, Striker), Chee Chung (Striker), Fairuz (Defender).

As usual the event started with some speeches by the organizer and a short briefing from the officials. There were a total of 24 teams which were assigned to 6 different groups. We were grouped together with Digi, Celcom and Packet One.
We gathered and discussed our plan since the last time we played was like a month back. We noticed that every other teams has their own jersey, making us look more ‘ghetto’ with our un-uniformed attire which further confirms our rookie status.
Our match with Digi was the opening for Group D. Our inexperience and lack of practice showed when we were beaten 5-0. The wounds deepened when we were trashed 6-0 in our second match against Celcom. At that moment, we felt like the whole world was against us. Since Packet One (P1) also lost both of their matches against Digi and Celcom, we thought that this could be our only chance of redemption.
Our 3rd and final match started. P1 raced to a 2-0 lead within a few minutes. Then unexpectedly, Thevan scored for NTT! That was a truly inspirational strike as it brought Team NTT to life! Not long after, Chee Chung produced a spirited display to level the score at 2-2! That really threw Team P1 into disarray. They started to make mistakes and within a few minutes they fouled Chee Chung inside the penalty box. Penalty was awarded to us! As the team captain, I volunteered to take the penalty kick. I slammed it into goal and it is now 3-2! That was the first time we were leading in the tournament! Unfortunately P1 managed to equalize during the final moments. The game ended 3-3. A draw, a result that I believe none would have expected, especially ourselves. It was a good game indeed.
P.S. At the time of writing it is known that Team Digi that we fought during our first match is the eventual champion.
